Our life together as a community, our service to the world around us, and the daily operation and upkeep of our buildings, which support that community and service, are all made possible purely by the generosity of our members and others.

Community Service

Transitional Housing

Starting in 2023, St. Matthew's began partnering with local groups to place three cottages onsite for individuals in transition. The cottages committee receives applicants for housing through Community Supported Shelters, and seeks to provide a safe and supportive atmosphere for people on their journey.

Food Pantry

The Pray BiG! food pantry is a partnership between St. Matthew's and Food for Lane County overseen by staff member Vanda Crocker. Under Vanda's leadership the pantry has received grants for equipment and supplies, as well as help from dozens of community and church members. The pantry is open the last Saturday of each month from 10-11:30am, and volunteers are welcome to come the day before at 10am to help setup. Donations of food, clothing, and other household goods are welcome!

Community Garden

Through a partnership with Santa Clara Community Organization and Plaza de Nuestra Comunidad, local gardeners are growing food each year in 39 different plots.

Worship and Holy Eucharist

Every week St. Matthews is open to all who would like to join us on Sundays at 10am for our Eucharistic Service. The service follows the Book of Common Prayer Holy Eucharist, alternating between Rite 1 and Rite 2, which includes opening prayers, scripture readings, music, and communion. Episcopal communion is open, meaning that anyone who has been baptized as a Christian may join in communion. After the service, everyone is invited to stay for coffee and snacks in the parish hall. For online live streaming, or to view past services, please visit our YouTube streaming page.If you have any questions, please contact our office. We'd love to speak with you!

You are invited to join us for meditation on Monday evenings at 7pm. If you are not familiar with Christian meditation, The World Community for Christian Meditation is a great resource. Also, you can watch this short introduction video on how to meditate. If you have questions, feel free to contact us."Fr. John Main taught that meditation is as natural to the spirit as breathing is to the body. While meditation is common to many religious traditions around the world, the method of practice may differ. The discipline he taught, based on the teachings of the Desert Fathers and Mothers."

Each Monday and Wednesday morning at 8am all are welcome to join online for morning prayer. We follow the Book of Common Prayer Rite 2 for morning prayer, which you can find using the Venite website. You are welcome to follow along, with or without video or audio. The prayers will be shared on the screen for everyone to see. If you are unfamiliar with praying using the daily office, here's a good explanation video.

St. Matthews is one of several locations in Eugene that host Al-Anon meetings on various days of the week. If you are in recovery or looking for a group, join us on Sunday evenings at 6pm or visit the Al-Anon Eugene website for listing all groups in the area.

Each month, St. Matthew's hosts Soup and Sanctuary on the 2nd Thursday of the month at 6pm. Come enjoy a homemade meal of soup, salad and bread with others in the community. Afterward, everyone is invited to the sanctuary for 15-20 minutes of prayers from the book of common prayer, readings from scripture, and opportunities for quiet reflection in the candlelit sanctuary. Everyone is welcome.

In celebration of St. Francis, patron saint of animals and ecology, Father Bob Morrison will be blessing our pets on Sunday, October 5th at 11:30am. This is a yearly event to remember our connectedness to nature, and the gift that animals are to us.
If attending the service, you can bring your pet afterward or place a pet carrier in the parish hall during the 10am service. You are also welcome to attend just the blessing at 11:30. If your pet can't make it, bring a picture!
